Madison County is stepping up to help low income families with their summer electricity bills. Madison County Chairman Alan Dunstan announced the Madison County Community Development Energy Assistance Office received additional funding from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity last week.
Madison County Community Development Planner Peggy Dugger says the funds are being used to implement a LIHEAP Summer Assistance Program.

Dugger says residents must present certain documents in order to qualify for the program. Those documents include proof of income for the previous 30 days, proof of age, social security card and your utility bill. To apply for assistance you can contact one of the seven out reach sites for an appointment.
