Madison County’s Park and Recreation Commission has awarded more than $1.3-million in park enhancement grants. This comes as good news for many park & recreation departments around the county, with the recent announcement that state funding for parks has been frozen.
In Alton, $138,655 has been awarded for work at Rock Spring Park, James H. Killion Park, and Gordon Moore Park. Alton took one of the biggest hits with last week’s state freeze on funding. Alton Park & Recreation Director Mike Haynes tells The Big Z while this award is welcome news, there is still a big hole in the overall funding they had been counting on.

Bethalto will receive nearly $48,000, over $31,000 is going to East Alton, Foster Township will receive more than $20,000, Godfrey gets $90,625, Hartford and Roxana each get $15,000, South Roxana $14,180, Wood River over $53,000, and Wood River Township nearly $32,000.
