St. Clair and Madison County have earned a dubious honor. Both counties are among the top 5 counties for greatest population loss in 2012 according to a recent report from the U.S. Census Bureau. The report, released Thursday, shows that more than 1,200 residents moved out of St. Clair County last year; the second greatest loss of residents in the state. Madison County saw only slightly less people leaving, with more than 600 people moving out of the county in 2012, the fourth most of any county in the state.The bureau estimates the current population of Madison County is 267,883.
Winnebago County, which is located along the Wisconsin border is the only county to lose more people than St. Clair in the past year.
