The operators of a towing business that wants to continue to operate on 7th Street in Alton are not going down without a fight. Although Alton Area Towing and the owner of the building in question have been denied a special use permit that would allow the business to locate in a garage on that street, a lawyer for the owner is arguing the city is wrong to do so.
Bill Miller represents Charles Wiley, who owns the building at 826 E. 7th Street. Miller told the council that businesses operating there dating back to at least 1930 have never needed a special use permit to obtain a business license.

The council denied the special use permit at the last meeting in January, but Mayor Brant Walker says the issue could possibly be brought back to the council at some point. However, there is nothing planned to do that at this time.
