A 41-year old Cottage Hills man is facing multiple felony charges following a house fire in the 1300 block of 7th Street on Sunday night. John L. Piper, who was identified as a resident of the home, has been charged with aggravated participation in methamphetamine manufacturing and unlawful disposal of methamphetamine manufacturing waste after investigators determined the fire was a result of a meth-making procedure.
Sheriff's Department Captain Mike Dixon says that methamphetamines have serious consequences for users and the production can affect anyone.
Dixon also says that size of the lab is irrelevant because the chemicals used to produce meth are capable of producing similar explosions regardless of the amounts being used.
Piper fled the scene on Sunday and was taken into custody at a business in Wood River on Tuesday. He is being held on a $100-thousand bond.
