A business development group from southwest Illinois is counting on former congressman Jerry Costello's knowledge of Washington to help keep Scott Air Force Base open, or even to expand it. The Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois has hired Costello's firm to work with a local task force pushing for the survival of the base.
Costello served 24 years on Capitol Hill and will work with retired Air Force General Duncan McNabb, who served at Scott. Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois Executive Director Ellen Krohne says the two men are a great fit for the task they have been handed.
While no base closures are expected next year, the push is on to protect Scott's future during the next round of cutbacks in 2015.
