Champaign is about to be golden – as in the Bloomington Gold Corvette show, which will surround the University of Illinois’ Assembly Hall for at least five years, starting in 2013. The event started in the 1970s in Bloomington and has kept the name despite leaving there a decade ago. This year is the last for St. Charles hosting the show.

Jayne DeLuce, president of the Champaign County Convention and Visitors Bureau, says three factors worked in Champaign's favor: a large parking lot and nearby grassy expanses for the show; a smaller-town setting with available country roads; and a revitalized downtown for an evening street party.
While DeLuce says the show is a major “get” for her bureau, she adds her mission is really to promote tourism in Illinois.
