A member of the Wood River Police Department has been honored for an arrest that took an alleged violent criminal off the streets. Late last month a Beardstown man allegedly sexually assaulted, kidnapped and battered a senior citizen and dumped her in Pontoon Beach. 49-year-old Lawrence D. Milhime was found a few hours later at the Bel-Air Motel in Wood River.
That, according to Wood River Police Chief Otis Steward, says Sergeant Timothy Gegen spotted the stolen vehicle and contacted the motel owner.

Milhime is charged with aggravated battery of a senior citizen, aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, burglary, robbery and motor vehicle theft. Steward also recognized the efforts of two telecommunicators – Derek Mormino and Arron Weber – for their response to a call from a Hartford mother that may have saved the life of her toddler that was not breathing. She was advised to perform CPR while medical personnel were dispatched, and the child survived.
