It’s been about a month since Godfrey joined the family of “Cool Cities” in Illinois, and one of the main supporters of the move says it will reap benefits for the village.  Lewis & Clark Community College Sustainability Director Nate Keener says while Godfrey has been making so-called “green” choices for a long time, having the Cool City name behind their efforts will open up a new world of possibilities.

One of those is in the grant-writing process.

Alton has been reaping the benefits of the program since 2008, securing grants in excess of $189,000 for energy saving measures in the Public Works and Sewer departments.
