One person suffered severe burns after a construction crew struck an underground natural gas line in Maryville on Wednesday.  The crew was working on the Villas at Nottingham subdivision yesterday afternoon around 1:45pm when the gas line was ruptured causing an explosion and fire.

Ameren crews and emergency personnel arrived on the scene along Highway 162 and were able to shut off the gas flow to the pipe, but residents within a quarter mile of the fire were evacuated as a precaution.  Highway 162 was closed between Illinois 159 and 157 during the incident.
