The Illinois House is two public hearings later this month, which are designed to give gun safety advocates, gun rights supporters and members of the law enforcement community to offer their views on the issue. Two local Democrats, and members of the General Assembly, are offering their views, and it appears to again reinforce the divide between north and south as opposed to Republican versus Democrat.
State Senator Bill Haine says many lawmakers are not considering the fact that people who are not fit to carry guns are the ones that commit the most heinous of crimes. He says more needs to be done to treat these people.
State Representative Dan Beiser:
Illinois is the only state in the nation that doesn't have some form of concealed carry on the books, but an appeals court says that's unconstitutional. It ordered lawmakers to pass a law by June.
