The Alton Community Service League has announced its recipients of this year's allocations. More than $11,000 was split between a number of organizations. Some went to beautification projects, with money also allocated for music, arts, and education.
Jean Conrady, President of the Alton Community Service League, tells The Big Z while the gift-wrapping effort at Alton Square Mall before Christmas is a well-known fundraiser, it's only a part of the overall effort.

She says the CSL is also teaming with a number of organizations to embark upon a beautification project encompassing much of Downtown Alton.
A total of $4,450 was granted to the following organizations for beautification: Alton Museum of History and Art, Greater Alton Community Development Corporation, Building Futures Youth Build/Americorps, Hayner Library, North Alton Godfrey Business Council, Pride, Riverbend Head Start & Family Services, Sierra Club Three Rivers Project, YWCA of Alton.
Area Charitable Projects were granted $6,500 to the following: The Alton Symphony Orchestra, Alton Youth Symphony, Boys & Girls Club of Alton, Coalition of Concerned Citizens of Alton, College Ave Presbyterian Church, East End Association, Great Rivers Choral Society, Jacoby Arts Center, Legendary Mustang Sanctuary, Nature Institute, Oasis Women's Center, Regional Arts Works, Saturday Café, Senior Services Plus, SAK (Serving Area Kids), Vintage Voices, Wreaths Across America.
