The United Way Community Christmas Campaign is under way and there's still time to donate an item or make a contribution to the cause. Donations will be accepted through December 12 at the many drop-off boxes around the River Bend, with items collected on the 13th and distributed to the benefiting organizations on December 14.
Campaign coordinator Dawna Gilbreath says the United Way works with more than a dozen local organizations in providing items for people in need:
Items that can be dropped off include news toys, undergarments and socks, new gloves and mittens, personal hygiene items, and non-perishable foods and canned goods. Monetary donations are also welcome, and can be mailed to United Way Community Christmas, 263 South Sixth Street, Wood River, 62095. The program is co-sponsored by The Telegraph.
