Another school year is here and a local center that strives to give kids and teens something to do is looking for volunteers.  The Community Center in downtown Alton sponsors an after school program for students and also holds a series of middle school and high school dances each month, but none of the events would happen without the help of parents and other adult chaperons.

Michelle Pawloski from the center says it really is a lot of fun to be around the kids, and if a parent of each child who uses the center could volunteer twice a year, they'd have all their shifts covered.  The next opportunity will be for the middle school dances in September:
