The Alton Committee of the Whole addressed problems within the 2012 budget last night, by approving an amended Budget and Appropriation ordinance. The ordinance included seven amendments that will help keep the budget balanced without adversely affecting the longterm financial future of the city.
Mayor Tom Hoechst says that the budget is close to being balanced, despite a mistake in total revenue reported by the CVB.
Hoechst also says that the arrival of grant funds and the fact that the city was not required to train its firefighters this year helped keep the budget balanced.
In other business, the committee authorized an agreement between the city and The Bank of Edwardsville that will give the city control of the property located one the corner of Fourth Street and Ridge Street, including the building that used to house the bank. The city has not announced its plans for how it will use the space.
