Alton's State House Square will be undergoing a facelift over the coming year. The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has approved a plan to completely redo the landscaping at the site that was once planned to be the State Capital of Illinois.
Second Ward Alderman and Pride Vice President Carolyn MacAfee tells The Big Z Pride the plan is to have the city rip out the existing trees, replacing it with flowers, shrubs, bushes and small trees.

She says the ambitious project could take a year to complete. MacAfee says the new landscaping design should make it easier on city crews to perform regular upkeep.
