The three-day weekend gives you time to enjoy a trip, sleep in – or volunteer. The Serve Illinois Commission is promoting today as “a day on, not a day off.”

Ted Gibbs, the commission’s executive director, says people can best honor the Martin Luther King legacy by volunteering, and Serve Illinois is maintaining a list of possibilities for you to consider. “One of Dr. King’s visions is that we can all be great because we can all serve,” says Gibbs. “He once said life’s most persistent, urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
