A former Naval Reservist with top secret security clearance from Columbia, Illinois has been sentenced on child pornography charges in federal court.  30-year-old Neal E. Purdy will serve 9 years in prison, pay a $5000 fine, and be subject to 10 years supervised release.

While being investigated on state charges of child molestation of a 14-year-old victim in 2012, Purdy admitted to possessing videos and still images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.  The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, which was launched by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation.  Purdy previously served a prison term of 180 days on the state charge of criminal sexual abuse.
