College Avenue and the sidewalk that parallels it will undergo a major facelift this year. The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has approved a number of resolutions that will come before the full council Wednesday night for final approval that will clear the way for the project to begin sometime in the spring if all goes according to plan.
Funding will come from a variety of sources, including the city, county, and federal governments. Alton Mayor Brant Walker tells The Big Z this project has been anticipated for a number of years.

The total cost of the project comes in at just under $1-million, with the city on the hook for a little less than half of the cost. In other Alton road news, Belle Street was opened to through traffic on Monday. It has been closed since early September as part of a water main replacement project.
