The Junior Class at Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto is working on a Safe Ride Eagle Pride Campaign. The initiative is sponsored by Allstate and Ford Driving Kills for Life, and the Illinois Department of Transportation and is designed to help students take a stand against distracted or impaired driving caused by cell phone use, texting or substance abuse.
The effort is also part of a contest and the school could earn some cash for their upcoming prom. Junior Class President Rachel Hawkins says they've been busy trying to spread the word about safe driving in the school and in the community:
Hawkins says they've also had support from local businesses who have been willing to hang signs in their windows to promote the campaign. The school should find out later this month how it ranked in the nationwide effort to promote safe teen driving.
