Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, and police agencies around the state wants to make sure it's a safe one. That's why the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation have already launched their latest "Click It or Ticket" campaign that will run through the Memorial Day weekend.
The campaign includes beefed up patrols, roadside safety checks, and seat belt enforcement zones, says IDOT Spokesman Guy Tridgell. He says the biggest emphasis will be placed on the overnight hours, from 11pm to 6am.
Last year, 13 people were killed in car crashes over the Memorial Day weekend in Illinois.
