A handful of developers continue to show interest in the possibility of building a hotel on the Alton riverfront.  The city says it has received five responses to requests of interest the city sent out this spring to about twenty regional developers and operators.  The mayor says when the development comes to fruition, it will be a big deal in attracting businessmen, tourists, and local events.

Alton Mayor Brant Walker says the hotel and convention center plus the new Multimodal Transportation Center could combine to give Alton a strengthened presence in the area economic picture.

Walker comments

Walker says another economic engine - Alton Square Mall - is showing signs of recovery as well.  In talks with the facility's owner, Walker says there is a spirit of optimism not only for this location, but for malls in secondary markets around the country.
