Alton's desire to develop the Wadlow Golf Course on the Homer Adams Parkway will be helped along if it receives a TIGER Grant. The Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Grant application process took a step forward Monday night with preliminary approval of a financial assistance agreement with Southwestern Illinois Resource Conservation and Development.
The organization aims to help the city address issues that have to be dealt with regarding the creek that runs through the property, according to the agency's Megan Riechmann.
The goal is to develop the golf course in an environmentally sensitive nature. Part of that development may be a new train station, as Amtrak gets ready to offer high-speed rail service between St. Louis and Chicago. Williams Creek Consulting is on board to secure federal funding for infrastructure work at that location.
