There will be more scenic cruises up and down the Mississippi River in 2014, and the city of Alton is hoping to make the river entrance to the city more attractive to tourists. City leaders are looking forward to what could be another good year for riverboat cruises, so there is work going on at Riverfront Park to have a nicer place to dock that the Spartan-looking former site of the Boat at the Riverbend.
Alton Public Works Director Bob Barnhart says it’s all about promoting tourism.

The Spirit of Peoria is one of the only authentic paddle wheelers still cruising the Mississippi. Work on the dock continues this week.
