The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has given preliminary approval to enter into an agreement with Riverbender.com to provide IT services for the next few years. The agreement will mean the city will benefit from the expertise available through a company that deals exclusively in computer-related issues, without having to try and find an expert to do the work in-house.
Riverbender.com owner John Hentrich says this may be a coming method for other municipalities to afford an IT specialist.
One of the main concerns is to have a system up and running by the fall when sewer and water billing are brought back in-house. The full City Council will vote on this and many other measures, including a handful of lease agreements with some downtown bars and restaurants to again allow for sidewalk cafe's tomorrow night.
