The Alton City Council has expanded its enterprise zone to include Quality Buick, GMC, Cadillac on the Homer Adams Parkway. With the expansion, Quality will be able to afford to make the improvements to their facility dictated to them by General Motors. The total investment is said to be over $1-million.
Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst says the family that owns Quality came to him a couple of months ago to explain their situation.
This will allow the business to add four new employees, and they anticipate a 15% increase in sales tax. In other council business, a resolution was passed that establishes a $25 administrative fee if city crews have to clean up your property. The fee would come in the form of a $25 lien on your property if you allow weeds to grow more than 4 inches tall and you ignore the warning. The resolution must still go through the process of becoming an ordinance.
