Shortly after being appointed as the temporary head of Park and Recreation last December, Alton Public Works Department Executive Director Bob Barnhart identified some areas where he felt his department and Park & Recreation can compliment each other. He is ready to officially move forward with those plans, and the Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has approved transferring the maintenance duties for the city's parks from Park & Recreation to Public Works.
Much of the work for Park & Recreation involves maintenance, and he feels moving about a dozen employees to Public Works can make for a more efficient department.

In other Committee of the Whole business, preliminary approval was given to a new contract with the Firefighter's union. Details of the contract were not available at the meeting.
