The Alton City Council approved a number of resolutions that will lead to temporary street closures across the city at last night’s meeting. The one that may prove to have the most impact on traffic will be to facilitate the Border Wars Triathlon on October 4th.
That event will require the closure of the outside lanes of northbound U.S. 67 across the Clark Bridge and eastbound Illinois Route 143 from the Clark Bridge to Discovery Parkway. Other closures include one on Saturday from noon to Midnight for the Marquette Raffle Party. That will close 4th Street between George Street and Langdon Street. More street closures are planned downtown on October 17th for a Lincoln commemorative event. The council also suspended the rules to approve a redevelopment agreement with Mississippi Landing apartments. A new roof will cost about $28,000, of which the city agrees to pay 25%.
