The hole in the back pit at Alton Middle School keeps growing, but both sides of the issue are meeting to come up with a solution to begin the fix. The pavement has collapsed in a section of that parking lot. The city of Alton and the Alton School District are now in talks to determine who will pay to repair it.
Alton Public Works Director Bob Barnhart says Alton Mayor Brant Walker and school district Superintendent Dr. Ken Spells are working out a plan to get this fixed.

Barnhart says the infrastructure is very old in that part of town, and a sewer-separation project that is getting underway will give him an opportunity to see if there is any more damage to the line as it runs diagonally under the school property on its way to College Avenue.
