With more scenic cruises along the Mississippi River in 2014, Alton is making a concerted effort to attract more tourists enjoying a day on the river. City leaders have passed a resolution agreeing to work with the American Queen Steamboat Company on liability issues It’s one more step toward embracing the possibilities offered in a river town, according to the mayor.

In other city council business, aldermen proceeded with plans to barricade Market Street between 6th and 8th Streets in hopes of eliminating a dumping area, will be seeking a PEP Grant from Madison County, and will be purchasing a pavilion to place at the James Killion Park at Salu.
