A replacement for the late Matt Melucci as Madison County Circuit Clerk is being delayed so there can be more consideration for the post. Madison County Board Chairman Alan Dunstan was to have announced a temporary office holder during this weeks County Board meeting, but pulled the item from the agenda so he can take more time to consider a candidate.
The most recent officer holder was Matt Melucci (pictured), who passed away last week following a battle with cancer. He was 68. Melucci was not seeking re-election, but was planning to continue as chairman of the Madison County Democratic Party. Dunstan says Melucci will be missed:
Dunstan says he will consult with other officials before making a final recommendation for the post. On the ballot for the job this fall is current Madison County Clerk Mark Von Nida on the Democratic side, and the Republican candidate is John Barberis, Junior, of St. Jacob.
