Volunteers with the Grandpa Gang continue to hang millions of lights as the annual Christmas Wonderland at Rock Spring Park in Alton is just about three weeks from beginning its 2013 run. Starting November 29, you will be able to drive through the Christmas Wonderland at the park to see the light displays as well as take the kids to visit Santa, and see some new and repurposed displays.
This year the display at Rock Spring Park will be as big as ever, according to Bob Osburn, head of the Grandpa Gang. He says they have repurposed an old display that hadn't been used in a couple of years because they have extra space to fill this year - there is no petting zoo.
He says there was also a conflict of dates with the petting zoo vendor, and a dead tree in the area that posed a possible danger. The annual walk-thru night will be held on Monday, December 2nd, for just a dollar admission per person. No vehicles will be allowed that night. The Christmas Wonderland display hours are 6-9 p.m. on weekdays, and 5-9 p.m. on the weekends. The cost to see the display is still $7 for cars and small vans, and $1 per person for vehicles with 10 or more passengers.
