A record fund-raising drive from the Freer Auto Body Community Christmas fundraiser will mean more Christmas for more kids later this year.  The  "Christmas in July" benefit that started as a Sloppy Joe and Kool Aid event a few years ago raised $17,400 yesterday at the auto body shop on Alby Street in Godfrey.

Margaret Freer of Freer Auto Body says her granddaughters, Taylor and Lily Freer wanted to do something to help those who might not otherwise have anything for Christmas.  She says the raffle accounted for $10,000 of the total raised on Friday.

Specific toys will be purchased from a small portion of the proceeds, and $16,000 will be donated to the United Way Community Christmas Campaign.  If you can't attend, you can still make a donation out to Community Christmas.  Call 466-6151 for more information.
