April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and a kick off to raise awareness is being held on tomorrow at the Madison County Administration Building in Edwardsville. The theme for this year's campaign is "Every Child Matters, Get Involved!" Organizers hope to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and encourage individuals and communities to support children and families.
Margarette Truschell, with the Oasis Women's Center, says there will be a lot of information to digest.
Madison County States Attorney Tom Gibbons will also speak at the event that gets started at 10am. Local social service agencies will provide resource table information and a short reception will follow the media event. Experts say efforts to prevent abuse and neglect before it happens include helping young parents and new parents develop skills to help them be ready for the responsibility of raising a child.
