Child abuse is a crime that continues to affect the community, but the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has recently launched a new hotline to help make reporting child abuse easier. The hotline is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is a computerized system, which should help the agency eliminate unacceptable delays in sending investigators out into the field.
State Representative Dan Beiser of Alton says this will help the agency get help to children and families in distress.
Experts say efforts to prevent abuse and neglect before it happens include helping young parents and new parents develop skills to help them be ready for the responsibility of raising a child. The hotline number is 1-800-25-ABUSE (1-800-252-2873).
