The Alton Police Department reminds residents to not only take care of themselves during this bitterly cold weather, but also check in on elderly friends and neighbors.   With low temperatures in the single digits, if someone loses power or their furnace stops working, it won’t take long for the house to get cold and cause more problems.

She says pets should not be kept outside during this time and suggests talking to the neighbor or calling police for assistance in helping the animal find shelter.
