Two Granite City residents are facing amended charges for allegedly supplying drugs to another man who died after taking them. 28-year-old Cory Armbruster (pictured, top) of the 4,200 block of Division Street and 30-year-old Becky Chandler (pictured, bottom) of the first block of University Drive are both charged with Drug Induced Homicide for allegedly delivering the drug fentanyl to 48-year-old William Smith on November 29.
They were originally charged in December with Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance, but the charges were upgraded after toxicology results from the Madison County Coroner's office indicated cause of death. Captain Mike Dixon of the Madison County Sheriff's Department says Fentanyl is not something they see much of in the county.
Fentanyl and heroin are similar in the sense that they are both strong depressants. In some cases, drug dealers mix Fentanyl with the heroin, and that resulted in a series of deaths in Chicago a couple of years ago. Bond for Armbruster and Chandler has been set at $100,000 each.
