The Madison County Sheriff's Department has arrested a man in connection with a case involving someone posing as an employee of Ameren where the homeowner in Godfrey was later robbed. 25 year old Daniel Mitchell of Caseyville is charged with residential burglary and is facing similar charges in a burglary case out of St. Charles County, Missouri.
Police say a man knocked on a woman's door in the 7500 block of Humbert Road just before 7pm June 4, and told her he needed to check the gas meter. After she took him to the outside meter, she became suspicious when she noticed another man sitting in a waiting car. When she and the suspect returned to the front of the home, the woman asked to see the man's Ameren identification, but he could not produce one. The women returned to her home and discovered her purse and several other items were missing, and she called police. Police believe the second person in the car most likely entered the home and took the items, but have not yet identified the person from the vehicle. Authorities developed a case based on the description provided and identified Mitchell (pictured) as a possible suspect. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals last Friday in Washington Park. Bond has been set at $75,000.
