A pair of Alton men are jailed on perjury charges in relation to an ongoing murder trial in Madison County. Prosecutors say 22-year-old Montinez K. Knight of the 3,000 block of Belle Street and 22-year-old Dearron M. Price of the 800 block of Silver Street lied on the stand in the trial of 22-year-old Marcus A. Baldwin of the 1,000 block of Alton Pointe.
It is believed Knight and Price lied about believing Baldwin was the shooter that killed 19-year old Dantavier Thompson of the 200 block of Elizabeth Street in July of last year. Knight said he did not see who shot the gun and Price said he did not know who shot the gun, according to charges filed on Wednesday. Thompson died as he sat behind the wheel of his car, which had crashed into some playground equipment at Lovejoy Elementary School following the shooting. It is believed Thompson was the victim of gunfire that was part of an ongoing dispute between rival factions in the area. Both sides rested on Wednesday. Closing arguments are scheduled for today (Thursday).
