A 27-year-old Alton woman has been charged in the heroin-induced death of an Alton man last Thursday.  Investigators say Mary Ellen Johnson of the 800 block of Washington Avenue went to St. Louis to buy the heroin for herself and 34-year-old Michael Johnson.  Michael Johnson was pronounced dead at that home on Washington Avenue, an apparent victim of an overdose, at about 4pm July 11.

Alton Police Lieutenant Scott Golike says while the two share the same last name, they are not related.
