The launch of a new fish processing plant in Grafton is coming a little sooner than originally expected, thanks to a change in plans. The original plan to catch and process Asian Carp for sale as a delicacy to the Chinese has been put on the back burner for now. The new plan is to get started as soon as the facility is ready, and sell to mostly domestic interests.
Grafton Mayor Tom Thompson explains.
The final review of the paperwork at the state level should take another three weeks, according to Thompson. He says all major issues have been taken care of and financing is in place, so he expects to see equipment moving into the facility sometime in April. The owners will be using a renovated building that was formerly used to store apples at the former Uncle Andy's Orchard on Illinois State Route 3.
