The process of receiving a General Homestead Exemption in Madison County is about to change. While the office is bound to the laws set forth by the Illinois Legislature regarding the exemption, the county’s Chief Assessment Officer says his office will be revamping the process.
And Joe Dauderman says it will be a process that begins with the application process.

He says it will be a team effort, and will need the cooperation of those involved in the business of real estate transactions. The exemption, which reduces the taxable assessed valuation by $6,000, is only available to owner-occupied properties with limited exceptions.
