Alton’s plan for the riverfront is coming together, and 2015 should be another year of progress, according to the city’s mayor. Brant Walker tells the Big Z the Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater will continue to host a mix of national musical acts and community events, and the other entities at or near Riverfront Park will also continue to play into the overall financial and cultural scheme of things.

Much of the recent publicity about the riverfront has focused on plans for a hotel and conference center at the site of the former Great Central Lumber Company. While there has been significant support for the plan from business and tourism groups, a grass-roots group called City with a View opposes the location.
