Madison County Treasurer Kurt Prenzler is refusing to be transparent in a St. Clair County lawsuit. That is the accusation of Madison County Board Chairman Alan Dunstan, who says the county should not be expected to pay more than $3,500 in legal expenses stemming from a lawsuit involving tax sales in the neighboring county.
Prenzler spoke to a group in St. Clair County in May of 2014, announcing he would conduct an analysis of how delinquent tax sales were being done. He is now being subpoenaed to answer questions as part of a pending lawsuit against the St. Clair County Treasurer brought by a tax buyer. Dunstan tells The Big Z he takes issue with Prenzler's actions.

Dunstan says there are also questions about why Prenzler surrendered his license to practice law. Prenzler declined an offer to comment for this story, pending consultation with his attorney. Prenzler is challenging Dunstan for the Chairman's office in the fall election.
