The Madison County Board chairman is asking the board to pass a resolution ending members' participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund. The move would not be an action against board members, according to Chairman Alan Dunstan, but rather a move to benefit county taxpayers and put the county in line with legislation recently passed by the Illinois Legislature.
Dunstan tells The Big Z if the board would pass this resolution, it would end IMRF for all board members with the sitting of the County Board on December 1.

He says it is his understanding that this would result in a freeze of existing pension contributions, while those with less than 8 years' on the board would get their contributions back. The Madison County Board next meets on September 21.
