The Madison County Child Advocacy Center in Wood River is holding an open house today. The center is primarily a place where the staff conducts forensic interviews of children and teens in Madison County who have been victims of sexual abuse. It also offers follow up counseling and assistance to the child and the families after a case has been prosecuted.
Executive Director Carrie Cohan says they are funded in a variety of ways:
She says the open house today is not only a way for the public to tour the center, but also thank the staff and other supporters for their efforts since the center opened in 2003. More than 3,500 forensic interviews have been conducted at the center, with more than 400 in 2011 alone. The tour today runs from 2-7pm at 101 East Edwardsville Road in Wood River inside the county building.
