The case against Governor Quinn's plan to close prisons is scheduled to begin Monday in Cairo. The AFSMCE union filed a lawsuit to stop Quinn from shutting down Tamms and Dwight prisons, claiming he didn't consider all the safety hazards before moving forward. A judge has already honored a restraining order to keep the prisons open for now.
And, both Democrat and Republican leaders across the state want Quinn to abandon the plan because of already overcrowded facilities. So far, Quinn is not backing down and wants to use money reserved for prisons to help families in the DCFS system.
