About 33-thousand cars and trucks crossed the Mississippi River on the new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge during its first full day of operation Monday.  The Illinois Department of Transportation says that's about what was expected, although the number could rise to about 40-thousand per day in a few months.

The new span connecting Illinois and Missouri is carrying Interstate 70, and was constructed to pull traffic off the Poplar Street Bridge that already carries traffic for Interstates 55 and 64.
