St. Louis Cardinals' ace Chris Carpenter (pictured) may have thrown his last pitch as a major leaguer.   The Cardinals held a new conference this afternoon to announce Carpenter was still experiencing pain while throwing bullpen sessions in the past week or so, and the discomfort that sidelined him last year has returned.

The team has said he will likely undergo more tests, but General Manager John Mozeliak says it is unlikely Carpenter will return to the pitching rotation.  Pitchers and catchers will report to spring training next Monday, with full-squad workouts set to begin Feb. 15.
