Knowledge is power against Asian carp.

“We're much more informed; certainly, Downstate, people will recognize there's a lot of carp into the water,” says Kevin Irons, invasive species project manager for the Illinois DNR. “We don't see a horde of fish moving into Lake Michigan, but we're very vigilant.”

Irons says no bighead or silver carp have been found in new areas this spring, downstream from the electric barrier.

Irons appeared before the Rivers Coordinating Council, which oversees Illinois' activities on the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, and Wabash Rivers.
